It’s time to enter chill-out mode with this week’s throwback. In 2007, Sasha created his emFire record label, which he used to launch his new material. The next year, in 2008, Sasha released the follow up to the original Involver album, titled Invol2ver. Like the first one, this compilation was created using deconstructed songs from a wide variety of musical talents. By doing this, Sasha pretty much built up a studio album, rather than a traditional mix CD. The end result is something that I still resort to as a standard for artist compilations. The album is a complete rework and remix of 13 original songs, which are beautifully blended together into a great interpretation. There are many songs on here that I can listen to over and over again, such as You Are the Worst Thing In The World, Arcadia, That You Might, and The Eraser. The intro leads you very smoothly into the second track, as well as the rest of the album.  The CD pretty much keeps me hooked from track 2 all the way until track 12. I don’t care much for the Engineers song but the rest of the album is solid. Keep in mind this isn’t a CD that’s meant for clubbing or anything like that. I enjoy it the most when I’m relaxing at home after a long day of work. It certainly doesn’t hurt if you have a nice set of cans which allow you to pick up all of the little interesting sounds that Sasha incorporates into this album. It’s the intricacy that counts in this one, and you can definitely tell that a lot of time and effort was put into this compilation. At this point, Involver 1 was already considered a classic, and with a long wait time of 4 years, Invol2ver easily claimed the spot of album of the year in 2008.
