Many of you are familiar with Englishman Darren Tate and the work he has put into creating Mondo Records. His earlier work varied in style, but he never strayed too far from the trance genre. Ever heard of Jurgen Vries? This was one of Darren’s aliases back in 2002 under which he released the classic track The Theme. He also worked closely with Jono Grant of Above & Beyond on a handful of tracks early in his career. However, it wasn’t until the release of DT8’s Perfect World in 2007 when Darren really crashed the charts with some authority.
This double disc artist album features original tracks by Darren Tate on the first disc, and trance remixes of those same songs on the second disc. There is a lot of universal appeal within the first disc because the styles range from electro-house to progressive house, tribal house, breakbeats and chillout. I like the remix CD a lot more, but without the first disc, there would be no second. This is precisely the mark of a superior artist album when there are numerous remixes created based upon that work. Nobody would want to remix a crappy studio album right? DT8’s Perfect World lays down some really good groundwork which evidently did not go unnoticed and to my delight, received a lot of input from other great producers.
The differential feature of the DT8 Project is that it fuses very well-written vocals with beautiful melodies and a high level of production. The lyrics are alive with love and emotion, actually make sense, and fit beautifully with the music. Today, Darren continues to produce great tracks by himself, but I believe his work under the DT8 apellation represents his best. If you like Oceanlab, you will definitely feel these tracks. Check out the following DT8 remixes with which I have no doubt rank high amongst the finest of vocal trance.
DT8 Project – Destination (Above & Beyond Remix)
The original version of this track came out in 2002, but for some reason it didn’t climb very high in the charts. This 2007 remix by A&B is awesome, and the vocals by Maria Willson are perfect. This track is truly a gem and is one of my favorites of all time. Great song to listen to with your loved one.
DT8 Project – Destination (Akesson Remix)
Another remix of this great song, but this one was released this year. Impressive interpretation by Bjorn Akesson.
DT8 Project – Hold Me Till the End (Aly & Fila Remix)
With the wonderful voice of vocalist Alexta, this single has TEN different versions, all of which are great. This one is my favorite with Aly & Fila on the remix.
DT8 Project – Hold Me Till the End (12” Club mix)
Here is Darren’s club version of his 2007 love song. The lyrics actually flow straight through your ears and into your heart, no joke.
DT8 Project – Falling (Sunny Lax Remix)
The original version of this song was co-written by Gavin Rossdale from Bush (what a random colabo right?) and features the guitar work of Cat de Cas and vocals of Alexta. The original is pretty much a rock song, but this Sunny Lax remix brings it back into the trance world.
DT8 Project – Tomorrow Never Comes (Gareth Emery Remix)
Here’s another track with the enchanting vocals of Alexta, and you can definitely hear the GTR sound on this one.
DT8 Project – Perfect World (Lange Remix)
This is the title track from the album. With Maria Willson on the vocals, fellow Englishman Lange shows us what he can do with a Darren Tate production.
DT8 Project – Breathe (Alex M.O.R.P.H. vs Woody van Eyden Remix)
There are so many great DT8 tracks to choose from, but I think this one is the best. I just love the way the vocals (again by Alexta) blend into the breakdown, which is in a class all by itself. Really great uplifting remix by A-Morph and Woody van Eyden. If you listen to this track just a few times, I can guarantee the melody will be stuck in your head. Please listen to this one with attentive ears and you will not be dissapointed!
