Oh man… where do I even start with these guys? This Egyptian duo ranks high in my top 5 producers list, as I’m always eagerly awaiting any new work done by them. I’ve been amazed by these guys since 2003 when they released their breakout track, Eye of Horus. Their style is in its own class; Aly & Fila bring uplifting trance to a level that only a few artists are capable of. Their tracks have such great melodies and wonderful breakdowns that raise the hairs off your skin and make you want to throw your hands in the air. With backgrounds in music theory, it is of no wonder why they are able to sculpt such fluid harmonies and put together great chord progressions. While their range of style isn’t very broad yet, this is what keeps me hooked to their music.

Their rise to fame has been very respectable, considering there are very few trance clubs in Egypt. In recent years they have produced great tracks such as A Dream of Peace, Lost Language, Thebes, Dynasty, and Rosaires, but this is where only half of their genius lies. The rest of their talents go into their remixes, which I think are even better than their own productions. Some memorable ones include: DJ Shah’s Back to You, Lost Witness’ Whatever, FKN’s Why, DT8’s Hold Me Till the End, Armin’s If You Should Go, Sunlounger’s Lost, Ferry Corsten’s Galaxia, and Lange’s Out of the Sky. I consider all of these artists lucky to have Aly & Fila work their magic on their songs; in most cases these tracks are notably improved.

Their DJ sets are also coming along very nicely, and they currently have a weekly radio show titled Future Sound of Egypt (on its 86 episode), which showcases tracks mainly from their sublabel, Offshore Recordings (offshoot of Euphonic Records). They also play a lot of tracks released on Monster, FSOE, Vandit, Discover, and Armada. Their growing popularity is apparent, as they were invited to spin in last year’s ASOT 300 celebration, as well as this year’s ASOT 400 party. They are also starting to tour a lot more, which can only mean good news for their fame. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend their US debut last year at San Francisco’s 1015 Club, but I am hoping to catch them soon. For those of you lucky bastards going to EDC on Friday, you should expect nothing but multiple eargasms emanating from their performance. Their upcoming  hit is called Khepera, with remixes by Heatbeat and Leon Bolier soon to be released as well. LONG LIVE MELODIC TRANCE!
